Scoil Acla - Rangannaí Gealig Acla Classes

Many Achill surnames are of Donegal origin due to the fact that many families settled in Achill following the resettlement in the 17th century of the O'Donnells and other families loyal to the O'Donnells. Coupled with this was the displacement of families during the Cromwellian campaigns which brought another influx of Ulster dialect.

These people brought their language and culture to Achill. It is the unique combination of Ulster Gaeilg' and influence of Connacht dialect which has given rise to Achill Irish or Geailg' Acla.

The establishment of Scoil Acla in 1910 and more importantly its revival in 1985 that has served as a catalyst fo the revival of Gaelilg' Acla.

During Scoil Acla week, Gaelig' Acla classes will be held for beginner, intermediate and advanced level of students in Irish.
